Emeran A Mayer
Dr. Emeran A. Mayer is a world-renowned gastroenterologist, neuroscientist, and a true pioneer in the study of brain-gut-microbiome interactions.
A Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Dr. Mayer sits at the forefront of modern systemic medicine. He serves as the Founding Director of the Goodman Luskin Microbiome Center, Executive Director of the G. Oppenheimer Center for Neurobiology of Stress & Resilience, and Co-Director of the UCLA Specialized Center of Research Excellence (SCORE) on Sex Differences. Supported by decades of continuous NIH funding, his research has fundamentally shaped our understanding of how stress influences brain-gut disorders like IBS and IBD.
Dr. Mayer’s scientific legacy is monumental: he has published 449 scientific papers, co-edited three books, and holds an exceptional h-index of 137 with more than 76,000 total citations.
